How Early Should We Book Our Newborn Session?
April 24, 2025 • 2 min read
If you’re expecting and wondering when to book your newborn session, you’re not alone—it’s one of the most common questions I get! The short answer? As early as you can.
Here’s why it’s a good idea to reach out sooner rather than later:

Due Dates Are Just the Beginning
I book newborn sessions based on your due date, not a specific day. Once your little one arrives, we’ll choose the actual session date—typically within the first 2-3 weeks of life. Booking early helps ensure I leave space on my calendar for the flexibility new babies require.

My Calendar Fills Up Fast—Especially in Peak Seasons
Spring and fall are extra popular for outdoor family sessions, and I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so I can provide a calm, unhurried experience for every family. Booking early gives you more options (especially if you’re hoping for a weekend date).

You’ll Have One Less Thing to Worry About
Preparing for a new baby is exciting—but let’s be honest, it can also be overwhelming. Booking your session ahead of time means one less decision to make once your baby is here. You’ll already have a plan in place, and I’ll be ready to go when the time comes.

It Gives Us Time to Chat About Your Vision
Do you love neutrals or bold colors? Do you want cozy, lifestyle family moments or posed studio-style images? Do you have a theme for your nursery? Booking early gives us the chance to talk about your hopes and preferences, and make sure everything is just right for your session.
Peace of Mind = More Comfort for You
Whether you choose an in-home session or a petite studio session, knowing your photographer is lined up and ready allows you to settle into those first few weeks of parenthood with a little more calm. And that comfort makes all the difference in your photos.

If you’re expecting, now’s the perfect time to reach out—even if you’re just in the second trimester!
Let’s chat about your due date, what kind of session fits your family best, and let’s capture the tiny moments.
