Why Valentine In-the-Box Sessions Are Perfect for Siblings and Besties

A Delaware Valentine Mini Session Favorite
If you’re looking for a Valentine mini session that feels fun, interactive, and genuinely kid approved, In-the-Box sessions are something a little different. These sessions are especially perfect for siblings, cousins, and best friends because they’re designed around play, connection, and shared moments, not stiff posing or forced smiles.
As a Delaware family photographer, one of my favorite things is creating sessions where kids can actually be kids. And In-the-Box sessions do exactly that.

Designed for Connection, Not Just Smiling at the Camera
What makes In-the-Box sessions unique is how the images come together. Kids climb into a real wooden box, photographed individually, and then a little photo magic brings the images together into a grid where the boxes appear to interact.
That means siblings and best friends can:
- Pass valentines from one box to the next
- Dangle their feet together
- Hold a felt heart garland across boxes
- Toast “hot chocolate” mugs
- Snuggle under blankets and peek around corners
- Toss and catch heart confetti
- Even have a gentle pillow fight with flying feathers
There’s movement, laughter, and interaction built into the session, which makes it feel more like playtime than a photo shoot.
Longer Than a Typical Mini Session and for a Good Reason
Most Valentine mini sessions are 15 to 20 minutes long. In-the-Box sessions are different.
Each In-the-Box session is 45 minutes, which allows time for:
- 9 to 12 different setups and poses
- Changing props and decorations from box to box
- Letting kids warm up and relax
- Capturing real reactions, not rushed expressions
These sessions are more technical on my end, but for kids, they feel easy and fun. There’s no pressure to perform. We move, we play, we laugh, and the images come together magically.

Perfect for Siblings and Best Friends
These Valentine mini sessions are especially popular for siblings, cousins, and best friends because the setup naturally encourages interaction. The grid format allows each child to have their own moment while still showing how they connect with one another.
Best friend or cousin sessions can be scheduled back to back when possible, which gives us extra time to capture playful interactions between both kids or groups of kids. When scheduling lines up, it makes the experience easy and seamless for both families.
Even when cousins, or best friends aren’t photographed on the same day, interactive images are still possible. One of my favorite examples came from two kids who were photographed separately, yet the final images still show them “playing together” thanks to the way the boxes, poses, and layout are designed.

Thoughtfully Styled With Kids in Mind
The decor for these Valentine sessions is intentionally simple, cozy, and handcrafted. Think lacey 3D paper hearts in pink, red, and white, heart garlands made from paper and recycled book pages, soft blankets, heart-shaped pillows, and a pale pink papier mache “XO.”
The box itself is a large, real wooden box on a platform, with barnwood-style walls that photograph beautifully. Everything is designed to feel warm and playful without overpowering the kids.
Yes, There Is Confetti and a Pillow Fight
Parents often ask if these sessions are actually fun for kids. The answer is yes.
One seven-year-old’s review summed it up perfectly:
“This was the best photo session ever!”
There really is a gentle pillow fight. There really is confetti flying. And there are big heart-shaped lollipops for kids to hold, lick, or show off between shots.
And don’t worry, parents don’t have to clean up the confetti. I’ve got that covered.
A Valentine Mini Session That Feels Like Them
In-the-Box Valentine sessions are about more than cute photos. They’re about capturing how kids interact, laugh, and connect with the people they love most.
If you’re searching for a Valentine mini session in Delaware that’s playful, creative, and truly memorable for siblings, cousins, or best friends, In-the-Box sessions might be the perfect fit.
